my nan

she's not doing too well in hospital at the moment. trying to steal my limelight it seems. here's a few pics of mavis evelyn duca. the first is from her debut.

this is her best friend josie. nan married josie's older brother, robert.

this is my nan and granddad. i think from their perth honeymoon in 1950. photographers used to approach people on the street back then and take photos for a fee.

this one is a bit of a shocker, i blame the late 70s for that. the baby is my cousin robert (known as bob to his family).

here's a pic of her from last year's birthday.

guess what?

i made it. last day with ecu. last working day in perth. of course, one could say that dancing is a lot of work and i've a weekend ahead full of dancing.

not really excited yet - seems unbelievable. still have to see people, organise things, pack my car. it'll be more real on tuesday when i hit the great eastern highway after kalgoorlie-boulder.

interesting times ahead.

and some behind. here's a couple of pics from when i was seventeen. the first is my close friends, sonia and chelle. i think it was for chelle's 16th birthday at margarita's (mexican restaurant).

this one is sonia and myself. and it's someone else's smoke i'm holding onto as well. ha!

from last night to this morning

a couple of cool pics for you. the first was taken at greens in leederville last night, i just love this paper globes. the second was the light behind the clouds on the way to work today. both were taken with my mobile.

a busy weekend

which started as they all do on friday. this day the gang met at the lucky shag (no, still no luck for me there) for a drink. it was a mad house. note to self: drinking hole by water no good at end of week. so it was off to the rtrfm rock quiz - part of the arts festival.

we came middle of the pack - very obscure questions at times but that's rtr for you. i had planned on dropping by chris' b'day at the oxford but it was late, i was tired... blah blah blah...

saturday was a car check-up whilst i watched doctor who on my beloved laptop. then i got a bit of a surprise... i had plans to meet the girls for a bronzewing lunch, we do those every 6 to 8 weeks through the year. well, unbeknownst to me, gail and marija had organised a few more bodies to tag along. so i did a bit of a double-take when i finally arrived at the brisbane hotel.

only took a couple of pics. sorry.

from here we wandered across the road to pcp as mike had an exhibition of his photos on display. yah mike.

sunday eggs... everlasting so i see...

i was suppose to catch up with my mom, sister and niece for brunch but then my nan was flown into perth with the royal flying doctor service and put into hospital so that got delayed/ cancelled. (note: nan had an operation on sunday night - she no longer has a stomach - how can i arrange that for myself? - she's doing fine so far).

sunday arvo was sailing with a couple of close friends. thanks martin for suggesting an outing on pugwash.

had a couple of quiet drinks sitting up near the freshwater yacht club - a lovely afternoon.

one of the fallen

yes, i have at last succumbed to the temptation that is facebook. i blame the fact that i'm leaving town and yes, i am weak. :)

out with the new...

this is the only photo i've got of me in my new "old" dress. a vintage night out with the lindy crowd. wine tasting, watching old music and dance clips - a fabulous evening. time flew by. this pic is me and lexi, one of my super teachers. :)

oh my!

this time in 2 weeks i'll be in my trusty green mobile heading into the sunrise.

pretty kitty

last night i dragged marija along to beck's music box on the esplanade (still missing the verandah though). we had dinner by the river at the lucky shag and please, no comment about the name.

so the show MEOW MEOW - was bloody fantastic. not sure exactly where she hails from but what a voice. from the very start when she prowled in from the back of the venue through the crowd, having people strip her of clothes to the crowd surfing, the love-ins, the costume changes on stage... i laughed, i cried. really amazing performance of french cabaret, chinese showtunes, i'm sure there was an italian song in there somewhere as well. a whole lot of fun and melodrama. highly recommended to anyone lucky enough to have her performing in their town.

(3 shots of meow meow courtesy of marvellous ms marija. excuse the quality of my pics as they were taken with my mobile.)

everything new is old again

bought new sunglasses.

and i worked out what's so cool about them. they give the world this semi-sepia tone. it's like looking at photos from when i was a kid in the 70s, and kodak paper couldn't hold those crisp technicolours. it's like everything is almost sun-bleached. better than rose-coloured glasses any day. :)

i am wireless, hear me roar

and broadband no less. in preparing myself for the migration east, i have splashed out on my very own little modem with vodafone. i have a few doubts that i will be able to connect in the midst of crossing the nullabor (at that stage i guess i really should be driving, not 'surfing') but will update you all as soon as i hit a metropolitan area.

this time in 4 weeks i'll be on a dance floor but in moments of sheer exhaustion will be thinking, two sleeps and i'm outta here. but so much to do in the next month, people to see, cases to pack, jobs to secure... it's going to be an interesting time.
