things are a-cookin'

how red is this cake mixture? baking a red velvet cake for the first time and the batter looks like blood. hmm... hope it tastes okay.

and then i covered the baked cake in a cream cheese frosting, so it looks like a giant puffball. i had to stick skewers in to hold the two cakes in place. yes, two cakes with frosting between and around. i'll let you know how it tastes.

and on other matters there is a change in the wind... a good change. maybe even a great one. but i'll let you know details when i can release them. ;)

laughs from the very cheap seats

i got a phone call late in the afternoon from some old new friends asking if i wanted a couple of freebie tickets to the melbourne international comedy gala playing at the palais in st kilda this very night. i said yes and then got straight back on the phone to find me a partner-in-crime. an hour and a half later i found myself down by the bay waiting to take my seat...

... at the very tip top of the bleachers. well, we were one row from the back. and it was a fun evening of variable comics. many thanks to peter and justine for thinking of me. yah!

cleanliness is next to goodliness

cycled into ACMI to watch snow white on the big screen and realised it was the first time i had watched it. over the years i had watched bits and pieces but not the entire film. i think the only part i didn't connect with was snow white's voice - very dated. considering the film was released in 1937 it's not doing too badly. ;)

and i must have caught the cleanliness bug from snow white as my house is now very clean indeed and i have a fast red couch... it's not the best pic - as it was taken at night with little light. i had dropped by IKEA yesterday to pick up the covers - only took me a year to do that, but yah, a red couch at last.

not just any tent

dinner with friends along southbank before hitting the most beloved and spectacular spiegeltent. built in 1920 this beautiful pavillion moves around the world but for the moment is squatting outside of the arts centre, next to a tram that's been turned into a bar. tonight's show was cantina. strange, glorious and disturbing display of acrobatics, dance, song and masochism.

find a show at the spiegeltent. you will not be disappointed.

perchance to dream

all people dream but not equally. those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous people, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

get thee there...

after a few hours sleep (damn you check out time) i made my way to the museum of old and new art MONABEST. PLACE. EVER. i can't describe what a joy and discovery this place is. if nothing else i would be drawn back to hobart simply for this wonderful gallery.

an amazing curiousity.

then it was back to the mini international airport and home to melbourne. tired but very happy.

very good times

today, well the morning was all about hobart and being a saturday that meant the salamanca markets. so i took a stroll through, picking up breakfast as i went. looking at stalls, listening to conversations and music. generally just ambled through the morn.

the afternoon... well that was something different altogether. i got dressed up in very fine attire (of which i took no photos - i know, silly), walked across the road to the b'hai centre where my good friend gavin was marrying his jane.

at the moment there are no photos to be had. but i am sourcing them right now. i will post as soon as am able.

it was a wonderful afternoon/ evening. after the ceremony we were ferried by double decker buses to a winery where we sipped and supped and then slipped on the dance floor. everyone mingled and laughed and cried, moaned at the speeches and complained when we got kicked out. it was a mighty fine time to share with good friends, old and new.
