press gang love

oh yeah. bought and watched the series again. all in the name of research of course. ;)

the weekend

getting places in the beamer with jamie and simon was my favourite part of saturday. come on, be truthful, who really likes moving, let alone helping someone else (who's not you) move? you say you do, but nope, i've caught you out. bring in the removalists i say. big burly guys who wear singlets and stubbies and steel capped boots. and all you have to do is make sure everything is packed, unplugged and you're out of the way. but the saturday move is over, and all i have to show for it is a whole lot of bruises and thanks from ilona and ed. ilona's new home is lovely and i'm looking forward to going back for a summer bbq where i can lie on the lawn and not have to move a piano. ;)

i somehow managed to drag myself to a movie saturday night. just needed to go for a walk after all the lifting and nova is just around the corner. dinner was a choctop.

sunday was a pretence in writing. bah! and then to avoid thinking about anything i walked into surrogates. it was crap. i expected that, but you know, there is always that little glimmer of hope. oh well, it was thankfully free.

more arty stuff

siren at the meat market with jamie and mark. this was a performance made up of 24 spinning robot musicians. little speakers on the end of each balanced rod which sat on tripods of various height, rotating as the piece progressed. a choir, a symphony - and as you walk around the room you hear it all differently. then as it reached the climax the lights went out and we were left watching whirling dervishes of red lights. strange and fabulous. and jamie admitted he was the first to clap at the end. i was interested in listening to the silence at that point. ;)

Sunday 18 October 2009

& after the walk there was breakfast

degraves espresso with alex. she was determined that i learn to appreciate the goodness that is porridge. i was allowed to buy french toast and have a few mouthfuls of porridge from her bowl. next time i might even have half a bowl - i know, miracle upon miracle. leisa eating porridge. ;)

we also discussed creative plans for 2010. it will be a huge year - might have to quit work as there is just too much else going on. ha!

bought the second book in the griffin and sabine series. it's now sitting on my book shelf, well and truly read.

sunday night on the couch.

Saturday 17 October 2009

and an afternoon nap was had

i seem to come across a new laneway each time i walk through the city - could map out the ones i've been through but where would the fun be in that??

saturday evening was reality tv before there was reality tv. a collection of film shot over 1971-1976, chelsea girls with andy warhol. really just a slice of life. nothing really exciting to be honest, a phone call, happenings in the factory, a party at john and yoko's.

the second film was one big long shot of the velvet underground and nico jamming. there could've been more but about 40 minutes into the film (i had drifted off into a nice happy thinking place by this point) when the building alarms went off and we were all evacuated. it is suspected that someone was smoking in the male toilets, what is this highschool??

jamie, alex, chris and mark met me for supper afterwards. always good being with friends.

Friday 16 October 2009

another working week comes to a close...

the evening started seated at an italian restaurant with jamie, alex and chris. mm... italian food. shared a dessert with jamie, OH MY GOODNESS, it was bliss. berries, and cake and cream and sweetness. i must find that place again. honestly, one of the best tarts i've ever had.

then back to the forum for some electro beats. the first, outrun wasn't too bad. a local synth band that sounded very eighties. the second was crap. so i don't really want to mention them. bah! then i got bored with waiting for fischerspooner (the reason we got tickets in the first place) - it was nearing midnight and i was over it. so left. i'm sure they're over my loss already. ;)

i did introduce the team to the lovely daiquiri glass though - two to the collection now. summer, watch out.

a night of mexican and gypsies

i took sophie out for a belated birthday "date" - the adventure started early when we walked into the city. and then trammed home again because i had forgotten the tickets to the show. then back into the city once more for taco bill's. delicious burritos and margaritas (damn strong).

this year MIAF hasn't got the beloved spiegeltent, they have becks rumpus room at the forum - so two weeks of music and mayhem. we found couches at the edge of the dance floor to collapse into as i sipped on a fruit tingle daiquiri. i blame you sophie for the addiction. i think perhaps it was the glass though - it lights up all different colours with the press of a button. magic. mark arrived before the first band started. a local band, barons of tang, gypsy death-core is how they describe themselves. hilarious and fun.

the second band, paprika balkanicus were wonderful musicians from the balkan states that got the crowd whipped up into a frenzy of stomping and dervish whirling. fabulous.

and then it was home time. yah for mark with car.

sunday's last supper

a lazy day of writing and wandering and reading. sat in the park with my new/ old nick bantock, griffin and sabine book. i'd like to write something like this, and i think i might come the new year. i've been working on something similar for a bit so i'll see how it turns out.

the afternoon had me and culture getting together again with the peter greenaway exhibition, leonardo's last supper which is part of the melbourne international arts festival. basically he's cloned the chapel wall where the original Last Supper is located and projected it's image on the surface in varying ways, accompanied with strange lighting effects and a soundscape of music. interesting.

Friday 9 October 2009

fabulous friday fringe & friends

the bedroom philosopher - songs from the 86 tram with jamie. see it. clever and funny and musical - just the way i've always liked my men? my comedy? my life? the catch phrase "you can choose your friends but you can't choose your tramily." it was very very good.

hung out in the bar sharing a sandwich til alex and chris showed up.

and then to a late show (but not the late late show) all the single ladies... two lonely guys come across a book that will help them seduce women. the ad libbing was hilarious, dave callan makes an appearance as mustafa the guru. it has to be seen to be believed. lol a lot.

Thursday 8 October 2009

curtain raising again

we met the director alvaro a few weeks back when eduardo had leaving drinks. got to talking and then invited to his show. a comic monologue that alvaro had three actors (one guy) exploring the sexual frustrations of a woman regarding her relationship. all of them playing the role of the woman, at the same time in some parts. funny and interesting - performed in a great space, theatre husk, which is very minimalist. enjoyed it a lot.

next on the agenda was newspower, which became political asylum (so totally confused me and the fringe guy i asked directions from) in north melbourne with mathew kenneally, rod quantock and a few others. mostly good - completely over any mention of that channel 9 show. over. it. completely.

need sleep. no really. :)

Wednesday 7 October 2009

comedy times three

another fabulous outcome of working on the alexandra technique is that i got blessed with a fringe pass - which means that i can get into many of the shows for free. just have to hang by the door til all the paying customers are seated and if there are any free positions, my butt gets one. yah! so last night i caught up with alex and chris at the store room in north fitzroy for three shows. i also found that i really like that neighborhood so i will be looking around there for my own place in the next few months. go me.

so the first show was bart freebairn - a breathtakingly magical journey into the ordinary. super, great, fab.

next came the hounds. a threesome that rambled their way through some comedy, all with the aid of a table and lube. some really good bits and there were times of very loud laughter.

last but hardly least was andrew mcclelland's somewhat accurate history of the fall of the roman empire. clever and funny. and with audience participation. i got to be a roman soldier, hold a paper shield and act out the turtle defence. hilarious. more fun times ahead. as always.

EVERYTHING!!!

Monday 5 October 2009

now what?

so many things... a long list of things. i'm loving my life. it's all so very good.

(p.s. happy birthday gail. see you in a few weeks).

Sunday 4 October 2009

the sunday that went on, and on, and on...

very tired.... these pics were taken at around 6.30 on sunday morning. i'd been up since 5.30, but since victoria went to day light savings today, in actuality it was 4.30. i tried not to think about that too often. ;)

people were rushing to the art gallery. at 6.30am on a sunday morning. how surreal is that? i think even dali would agree and that's who we were all there to see. the salvador dali: liquid desire exhibition at the NGVI. i was sitting on the ledge waiting and watching people power walk into the building. it's pretty incredible and a great marketing ploy by the gallery - grabbing a new audience. the gallery stayed open for 24 hours over the last day of the dali exhibition - and the lines were insane the entire night. jamie and i were in line inside the gallery for about an hour before we got into start viewing, then in there about two hours. destino, the short film between dali and disney is still by far my favourite piece.

because i was late getting into the exhibition (who woulda thought there would be so long a line?) i was a bit late picking up tash for our date at the tulip festival. the drive up to silvan was lovely. but there was another line to get in when we arrived, and then it started raining so we purchased two lovely rain ponchos. there was food and jazz and a whole lot of chatting. a very good time was had with the lovely tash.

last show.... which i just made it to. something to be said about day light savings, devonshire tea and not being able to tell the time by the sun... oops!

a good last show. i really enjoyed the experience and hope to repeat it again sometime soon. theatre at whatever level is a lot of fun. the below pic is me sitting on the stage packing up the "snow" for the last time with ziggy and his fundament bum in the background.
