some days

like today for example. i wish i were working outside again. not because it's a particularly gorgeous day out, just that it's not especially fun in. now i'm not wishing to do what i used too - never in a million years, but sometimes a little variation would be a grand thing.

a quote by john cage:
it is not irritating to be where one is. it is only irritating to think one would like to be somewhere else.

yeah okay, fine.

what's been going on?

a few days ago i borrowed alex's husband chris, and we went along to the taping of a new sbs show, adbc. it's a comedy history quiz. the studio felt as though it was in someone's backyard in st kilda - not quite what i've seen before but it was really interesting. a half hour slot that goes to air sometime in august which i will have to look out for. i need to see how they condensed the hour and half, down to 30 minutes and also make it interesting without all the rude asides. the comedians were tony martin and angus sampson (who happens to be just a bit cute in person), along with a couple of inane historians who tried overly hard to be funny and an insipid host made up the panel.

skipped socialising and hibernated on friday and saturday. a trip down south to the mornington peninsula with jamie, simon and a contingent of european cars on sunday. i know, i'm almost as shocked as you are. but it was a glorious day for a drive, the company excellent even though i got growled at for almost dropping my mocha frapp in the car. oops.

Lat den ratte komma in

i was recommended this film by alex. a swedish vampire film... i know. a little odd. and yes, it was a bit strange. a young boy falls for a young girl, who just happens to be a vampire. the movement of the camera lulls you before something sharp and graphic. now whilst i didn't see it really as a horror there are some startling images. but the more i consider the film, the more i realise i enjoyed it. for it's differences. something that the film subject teaches.

it's going well. first time in a long time, it's going well. just the tiniest bit happy about that. ;)

weekend of song

karaoke seems so long ago now. lots of friends gather in a small room, drinking, singing, laughing. minimum of food, quite a bit of alcohol, there was a camera but no audio recording device which is a very good thing. ha!

a drink at the exford before tramming down smith street to the birmingham for dead river deeps. friend of friend's band. here's a couple of pics courtesy of jamie.

a sunday sleep in before heading to starbucks. can you believe i had to take my own cream cheese? i know. they get the bagel back and then have the gall to run out of cream cheese. lucky for them i was prepared. one thing after another.

tash was performing with the melbourne mass gospel choir at the baptist church on collins in the early arvo. jo jo smith was in attendance and was fabulous. it was a beautiful sunday afternoon.

i went from saving my soul through song to terminator salvation at melb central. it entertained me, that's all i can ask. :) sam worthington did well.

friday on my mind

i had a beautiful day yesterday. it involved not being at work, and a whole lot of sunshine. met some friends at silk road on collins in the evening. the plan was to eventually meander over to manchester lane but we somehow got stuck in the vortex that was silk road. it felt almost like the meat-market i used to inhabit in my earlier clubbing days, but a tad classier. well maybe the facade was classier but underneath it all i suspect there were a lot of "sylvester's" clientelle. :) it was a fun night catching up with friends, though when we finally descended to the dance floor all we had to move to was a slew of will smith tunes. my cue to leave.

un baiser s'il vous plait

the tagline for the film is "true love is a complicated affair". oh i liked this film. i was as seduced by it as the players seemed to be. laughter and longing. and so utterly sexy. yes it's french, yes that means sub-titled, yes you should see it. :)

senility is setting in

yep, it seems it has now become official. i somehow left my phone in the fridge. i'm blaming the chocolate.

friday, saturday, sunday

i LOVE the national gallery of victoria. i'm a member and i get specials like previews of the collections. this year's winter masterpiece is salvador dali liquid desire. tash and i went along for an introduction talk on friday night before a walk around the gallery with only the members in attendance. no general public for me. it was strange and overwhelming and wonderful.

then across the bridge to acmi and a screening of an american werewolf in london with jamie.

saturday was so damn cold... i planned my IKEA attack and managed to get in and out before the crowds. of course the shelves are still in their packages on my bedroom floor. maybe next weekend. if i've got time. ;)

i need sunday photos. jamie has a car. it's silver. and it goes fast. and i got picked up for a sunday drive before heading off to the belgian beer gardens with a few other friends. the fabulous shuffle club were in attendance. great session. very odd being driven around. i could easily get used to it. :)

brrrr...

you know it's cold when i make myself a hot chocolate first thing in the morning.

yesterday i was in the city for a couple of morning meetings and not only was it cold, it was raining. then, as i was waiting for the 96 it started to hail, just small pieces of ice but it was spectacular. i was standing there, rugged up to the teeth, ipod on, under my umbrella, smiling the big smile. maybe even laughing. it was pretty glorious i have to say. and then squished myself into the busiest tram on the line. nothing like a morning rubbing up against strangers. ha!

yes, there could be just a touch of madness about me. but it's winter and you have to love all that comes with it. ah, the opportunties abound.

the bagel saga comes to a close

one step closer to all being right in the world. there are bagels back at starbucks. this morning only blueberry bagels which seem just a little wrong, but on tasting them a better substitute than the honeyed croissant. starbucks almost lost me but they're now regaining territory. i tried other venues but i just like the morning routine of a venti mocha frappacino, no cream and a plain bagel, zapped with cream cheese. and the couch, well armchair is perfect for my needs and i shall have a similar chair in my own study one day. surrounded by built-in-bookcases. wonder if starbucks will deliver then?

told you thursdays ROCK!

i wasn't really in the mood for going out but boy, am i glad i pulled my sorry butt off the couch and into the night.

alex and chris had invited me along to hear a band at the hifi bar. turns out neither of them had heard them before either. it could've been a very very bad investment.

turned up in time to see the support band, art vs science. who rocked the joint as well. a sydney act. catch them if you can.

the headliners were datarock, a norwegian four piece. AWESOME! suited in red sweats, just glorious. a high energy, insane set. they just kept on going.

to add to the entertainment they screened film clips with the band members playing some of the scenes. alex and i were trying to keep up with what they were. sixteen candles, ET, dirty dancing. but the best by far was bmx bandits. hilarious. oh... and then the finale was the audience and the band singing to one another, along to "i've had the time of my life". magic moments.

found! photos on phone from weekend

with a name like this i'm not sure if i'm more tempted to eat here than not!!

and strangely enough i had been conversing with a friend about the disappearance of all golliwogs only the other day. then walking through one of the city arcades i come across this window.

walking home through carlton gardens at night, listening to good tunes. yes, it's safe. yes, i'm careful. yes, it's beautiful.

the heart

...the world changes when something in it is loved. words become feeble. colours glow. every moment vibrates in the possible importance. and the heart that loves wonders how it lived, in the past, without loving - and how it will live now, now that it loves.

4 years today

since dad died. what have i done since then? lived or existed? bit of both. having a "what am i doing with my life" day today. too many questions, not enough answers and no one to answer them anyway. i miss his insane conversations.
