out of town

drive to kialla, just outside of shepparton in the early evening for larissa's housewarming. a fabulous time was had, a wonderful new home and great hosts. way too much punch, and jelly syringes with leah. do not know what time i crawled into a sleeping bag, but there was little sleep and a whole lot of unbalanced turning over on the air mattress.

one week

yep. already i've been at miller street for one whole week. am i any more sorted than i was last thursday? um... maybe just a little. well, really quite a lot. there are a few things i'll get over the next couple of months, like more book shelves. who would've thought i'd have so many books? me! i knew. and i'm still considering giving a heap away to the local library but i have to go through them all first.

last night i managed to sort through the yards of fabric, some of which i still like. and i even had a place to store it, so that's one thing down. then accidentally fell into a box of photos, but this will take a little more time and effort and a trip to IKEA for small storage containers and albums. i came across some pics from highschool, a school camp, last day at school, and a couple of the balls - oh my! i've been chatting with a couple of friends from highschool recently and they're organising a year 10 reunion in october of this year, these pics might come in handy.

as a friend said a couple of days ago, tempus fugit.

riding in cars with boys

sunday driving, i was just waiting for jamie and simon to send me the pics before i posted - then forgot to add. way out woodend/ daylesford way, it was a crazy day of u-turns, dead phone batteries, pretend vanilla slices and great company.

for the record

had a fantastic night of dancing on a floor where we could actually swing out for a change. so when i got home i felt like listening to a bit more music and having a jump around.

well, a couple of years ago for christmas, my nan gave me a new but retro record player and tonight is the first chance i've had to play it. and one year ago today my nan left 206 wittenoom. so how cool is it that i get to play records today, well tonight? hmm... the choice of music is probably not to her taste, especially when it's a 70s compilation album and right now it's spinning out "am i ever gonna see your face again??" well, maybe it's appropriate afterall. ;)

i just went through the record collection that i inherited from dad and realised that mum got all the records i want - so there might be a swap when i next get to perth (you have been warned mum - i want my abba records, boney m and i'm sure there are others...)

oh just remembered, i have snoz durante. i bought it a few years back. nan would know who i'm talking about and that's all that matters tonight. time to flip the record.

work and play

there was a moment at the end of the day and before the night, when i found myself seated on my new couch in front of the old tv. a respite before it starts up again. there was a lot of unpacking and sorting and yet there is still more to do or i could just close the door on the spare room. ;)

caught my old tram into the city from a new location to meet fiona at the campari bar for birthday drinks. there was a lot of man-loving hooliganism going on, not from fi's party but a buck's night. it was one of those "i fear to watch but cannot turn away" moments.

this about sums it up. a tiara and a cigar, both reserved for the buck.

slept well, thankyou for asking

one leg bracing the end of the couch while i tighten up a bolt on the opposite end. flexibility of a contortionist i tell you. or just someone living by themself. ;) everything is slowly coming together, so to speak and it's a whole lot quieter than my last place, i'm going to love it here.

jill's birthday was celebrated at jim's greek tavern in collingwood, or is it fitzroy? where e'er we were there was great company and a plethora of good food. recommended for a good night out - i'm certain we could rent the crowd too.

another beginning

up early to meet the movers. they didn't take long loading the bits and pieces from 238 before we headed off to the new abode on miller.

this is the view when you walk through the door prior to the landing of all my stuff.

i love these handles on the kitchen cupboards - i could say that these were the reason i applied for the place and i'd only be stretching the truth a wee bit. ;)

this is the living room when you're standing in the kitchen. yes, i know it's yellow.

and thank heavens i have a spare room.

i had another two deliveries through the day. a surprise one. i received a phone call to say that i had won a prize - a $500 hamper of cheeses, dips and wines (crackers will be delivered next week). here's the evidence.

nat came over after work to help me put my bed together. that was the other delivery. a zillion screws later i had a bed. as a reward and dinner, nat and i sat in the middle of the lounge room and ate cheese and bread. see, that prize already came in handy.

first night in my new bed in my new home.

the road (most taken)

bleak! really it might be a great book, each word chosen with care - but you know i'm glad it was a free film because it was just grim.

missing...

and there is no reward except for a big smiley thankyou. if any of you have spotted marija jukic please let her know i'm looking for her. it's her birthday today and since i haven't heard from her in weeks and weeks and actually don't know if she's in australia, new zealand or elsewhere, i thought i'd use this forum to wish her a fabulously happy birthday.

call me. (does that sound pathetic enough?)

a eureka moment!

look what i found while wandering the freezer section of coles yesterday (grocery shopping not just loitering to stay cool). a west australian product has snuck across two borders. woohoo! i promise not to get re-addicted to these and turn from my beloved frappacino. like that could happen. ;)

sunday driving

an unexpected road trip down the great ocean road with jamie. he's home. it's good and it was an absolutely glorious day. brunch in lorne and a wander along the beach before checking out the twelve apostles (which is now a little less than 12). ;)

saturday in the park... (with new "old" chairs)

i'd won the bidding war on these chairs a couple of days ago and got to pick them up today. they just remind me of growing up. and talking to mom, she said that goona had given her and dad two yellow chairs like this when they were first married. they had to use them until they could afford a lounge. no instant gratification for our parents back in the day, they had to wait and save to purchase the big items. funny that we don't think of them as big items anymore. but things we have to have immediately, on credit if need. do they then mean less to us?

today is a good day. :)

fantastically fantastic mr fox

see it. honestly you have too. nat and i went along to the nova tonight - it was a real treat.

Wednesday, 6 January 2010

1950s rewind

today in my travels i found a new blog. a woman in the u.s. spent all of 2009 living as if she were in the year 1955. i've been reading it a bit, clipping (the 2010 version) the recipes and writing ideas for things i want to be doing over this year. i can never see me giving away so many conveniences and adventures that i have in my life currently but there are so many possible additions from that period that enchant me.

i think the blogger has taken it from a year project to a way of life. what fun!

Monday, 4 January 2010

hi ho hi ho

a stop and go type of day. back to the salt mines but the network decided it was still on holiday. kind of. it was down, it was up, it was down... rollercoaster-like or any other analogy you care to think upon. which meant i really couldn't get any work achieved on day one of the new VU year. it also meant that my bored-with-work-what-can-i-do-oh-surfing was out for the count. let's hope it's not a sign of the times.

my new home is calling to me.... hark

one less day of vacation

caught the lovely bones early this afternoon. a lyrical film by peter jackson - reminded me a bit of his earlier film, heavenly creatures. then a saturday walk home through the park...

and then there was doctor who. the second part of the xmas special - well, technically new year's part two. a farewell to david tennant and a hello to matt smith. i'll let you know what i think...

Friday, 1 January 2010

and so it begins...

i love this door to no where. i believe that if you step through it from the inside, it's like stepping into c.s.lewis' wardrobe but not fictional, real life. no really. i'm sure it could happen. i wonder if i can talk someone into letting me try. ;)

this theatre is in richmond and i almost missed it. i dropped into look at some furniture and this beautiful old theatre houses all this second hand furniture. a little surreal.

a new year to explore. it's going to be another big one. i can just feel it. i'll see you at the other end. ;)
