free fringe

another freebie to a fringe show. this one is phlegm fatale and it played at open studio in northcote. a small but fabulous bar, small tables with chequered cloths, mulled wine (my first) and superb chocolate and banana crepes. the show was great, really entertaining, cabaret in the style of meow meow. there was interaction with the audience and i even got handed some sweets. the phelgm, or amy, has a wonderful voice and a great way of delivery poetry. an unexpectedly fabulous time was had this thursday night.

more days like this please

another morning at starbucks before heading to the hotel for the second day of arresting audiences. another early morning of "hey apple..." texts with dave. ha! look up annoying orange on youtube and i shall say no more. ;)

a friday with more film stuff before heading for drinks in hell. a cool bar above degraves street.

the evening found me in st kilda to meet chris and jamie at the palais theatre (awesome venue) for unknown pleasures (definitely not as kinky as it sounds). which was a joy division celebration with peter hook and friends.

a very good day and night

arresting audiences in the city. a film summit put together by filmvic looking at audience testing, marketing, genre, all sorts of goodies actually. dave, kyra, karyn and myself joined about 196 others at this affair. really interesting and inspiring and it just felt fantastic doing something i wanted to be doing. the last speaker of the day was jane espenson - this woman has written for many of my favourite scifi/fantasy shows and is currently working with russell t. on the new series of torchwood. ahh... i swear she's stolen my writing life (had i only got my a into gear). ;)

the evening entertainment were the dry martinis and the cigarettes of doom held at the tiki bar in richmond, which just so happened to be where i was taught to balboa dance. we sipped cocktails whilst watching this vaudeville noir burlesque type show. there were some weaknesses but it was still a lot of fun. and free. a little bit of magic and also a woman climbing out of a suitcase. ooohhh aaahhh...

elementary

sherlock trivia and sherlock the tv series. i did both of these today. the new show was really entertaining and i'm excited to see the rest of the episodes. didn't do so well with the trivia this evening though - middle of the pack.

today and tomorrow

tomorrow was a bit disappointing. high production but eh acting. i enjoyed the first few books of the series immensely. it was still an entertaining escape from the day (and it was also a free ticket).

and dad's birthday today. he would've been 61.

death in vegas

this was the theme of simon's flat-mate warming party. i may have been the only one who combined both... being monticore the tiger who chewed on roy's (of siegfried and roy) neck. it was a fun evening.

grrrrr

another birthday boy

it was jamie's birthday today. i skived a day off work to hang out and then met him mid-arvo to go through the tim burton exhibition at acmi. no crowd, no lines... got to see everything.

the evening found us gathered with some friends at the supper inn to celebrate over rice. good people.

a birthday

my little brother's birthday today. this photo of brad and dad was taken, not as far back in the past as it might appear. i think though it was in the early 90s when the three of us had taken a trip to sydney and found ourselves out in botany bay. anyway, it's brad's day. happy birthday boyo.

it's bad, real bad

another rendition of the "so bad, it's good" movie night with plan 9 from outer space and it was indeed a bad film by ed wood. today is also lea's birthday so i had a few friends over to celebrate and laugh at the tv.

used my slow cooker for the first time (thanks chris & reg) and threw in a lamb roast (thanks to lambdirect and winning the katrina kindie trivia night). there was cooking and baking and cleaning and a quick trip to the other side of town to the usa food store. it was a really good day filled with friends, and that's what it's all about.

happy birthday lea.

escape from the city

after waiting for a delivery of a whole lot of lamb, i was whisked off in a 1982 silver bmw for a drive. headed east (see oval on map) to avoid the flooding to the north of the state with jamie, mark and bao. there is some beautiful country out there, and i even managed to see a smidgeon of snow on the top of a far off mountain. i got laughed at for mentioning it though, "that's not snow" etcetera. it was to me so there. :P

beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice

had a drink and meal with jamie and mark at the greek grill before meeting jill for beetlejuice at acmi. the film has not aged well. but it was still good to see, though both boys decided to take naps midway through... hmm..

i just read the poster for the first time... the name in laughter from the hereafter? nooo... has that always been there? i remember watching this in 1988 when it first came out, ah... the old viewway cinema in south kalg.

two days

where was wednesday? well now it's yesterday and i caught up with simon for a movie and choctop at the astor. fabulous art deco cinema house in st kilda for the grindhouse double feature but i only made it through planet terror because i was sliding off the seat into sleepdom. no, the movie was not boring, quite funny and simon was flinching more than i was, which added to the hilarity.

today's adventure was into the city and acmi to take part in a focus group. they were looking at the inhouse publication of "what's on" - i got to put my 10 cents in and walked out with some movie tickets. gotta like that, huh?

worth of a smile

a sunday morning smile was worth one trip into the city along nicholson on the city circle tram. normally these don't carry passengers, but i had smiled a good morning as the tram went passed and he stopped. so more smiles all the time. :)
