a change of plans

what was suppose to be a trip out to hanging rock for a picnic turned into a rainy day of movies. so i was into the city for i am number four. i had a free ticket for greater union and there was hardly anyone in the cinema, my favourite thing ever is an empty cinema. i can remember once at the viewway in kalg having that very pleasure. me in the cinema all by myself. bliss.

it was still raining when i got out so i picked up series one of the x-files. it started in 1993, oh my goodness. last year of uni, why was that so long ago?? time, you have foresaken me.

what a day!

the festival of annie started with brunch at toast in north melbourne... great conversation with a bunch of new people. yah! then a tram into the city and the immigration museum. with annie off to timor there was a small exhibition at the museum, so a group of us wandered through that and the rest of the building. it is a fabulous structure.

from here it was another tram up to north fitzroy for lawn bowls. i didn't take any photos but there was someone with a camera. oh yes, kurt. hopefully i'll get some pics from all the fun. it didn't end here... it was on up the road to the pinnacle pub for dinner. what a long lovely day spent with fantastical people. a lot of laughs, a few tears and many hugs. friends are awesome aren't they?

another saturday

i'm glad this was a MIFF freebie, it was just eh. the screening was over brighton way, the other side of town for me and whilst it was a breeze to get there for the 10am show, getting home took FOREVER.

mid afternoon had me baking up a storm. well maybe not a storm, perhaps something more like a sun shower.

took the cakes along to a supper dance that barb was holding in spotswood. it was a lovely evening talking with friends and sharing a swing out or two.

last night

walked over to the east brunswick club and caught two bands. the chemist... who i just discovered is a perth band. really enjoyed some of their songs.

the headliner was i am kloot. a three piece from manchester. loved his vocals. really fabulous voice. there were quite a few drinking, disaster, love and disaster songs. ha!

then walked home. yah!

love is,

how awesome is this pic by chris scott? awesome. it was part of edinburgh city of literature's carry a poem campaign last year - and douglas dunn's poem was projected against the rock. just beautiful.

love is, above all, the gift of oneself.

goin' south side on a saturday night

not my photo of you am i. just want to let you know this right now. i was no where near the stage and it was well and truly dark by the time they took the mic. so really we didn't need to get to st kilda bowl's for 7pm sharp (i'm looking at you simon). though it was actually a great night to sit outside for a bit, have a drink and a sausage in bread and wait for the bands to start. i had a good night. though i must say, the wildlife along fitzroy street is a sight to see.

127 hours

the film was only just more harrowing then actually getting across town to the jam factory. grrr... traffic. 127 hours, beautifully filmed but it takes a lot out of you to watch it. even knowing what was going to happen i'm not sure i was quite prepared.

a day

spent dodging rain and cars on my bike. rode into the museum in the morning. had a wander around the melbourne story (thanks for the head's up gail).

then to acmi for beauty and the beast back on the big screen. nat and i hadn't seen it in years and there were so many scenes i had quite forgotten about. be my guest... sublime song.

scream like a rabbit

we all forgot that it was chinese year's eve when we decided to meet in chinatown for dinner before the gig... hmm... luckily enough we found a place right on little bourke. luckily...? well, it was loud when the entertainment was outside, imagine what it was like when the dragon, the drums and the cymbal walked in through the doors. yep, very loud indeed. but it was all for good luck in the new year and if you put a coin in a pouch and fed it to the dragon you get a wish. i made a wish. and like i'm telling anyone. if it happens i'm sure you'll find out in the long run. ha!

then it was on to the forum with chris and jamie to hear primal scream perform the album screamadelica. and it was quite sublime. just what i needed.

once upon a time

all stories begin with "once upon a time". and that's just what this story is all about: what happened, once upon a time. once you were so small that, even standing on tiptoes, you could barely reach your mother's hand. do you remember?

how awesome is that beginning? i'm about to embark into e.h. gombrich's a little history of the world. i'm excited.
