film and frivolity

the morning held a crew meeting for af's upcoming film shoot. got to meet most people and it's going to be a lot of fun and work. so looking forward to it.

this evening was a costume party in celebration of melb's 30th. nautical or naughty-cool. it was a fun evening with a whole lot of neighbours and old friends.

chew chew

or choo choo at the blue train on southbank for a belated birthday dinner for ed.

my city on the walk home... pretty spectacular huh?

this day i

popped into the acmi store for a present for ed but couldn't find what i was looking for, but it did give me a chance to wander around fed sqaure a bit. the tim burton exhibition started yesterday at acmi and there were all manner of stripey and goth-like people hanging around. i'll be getting there myself in the next couple of months, and they're also screening many of his movies - oh yeah. happy days.

then a little later on it was off to another free movie with tickets i had won through AFTRS. a new australian film that is definitely worth a look. good story, great production and bloody harrowing. i felt a little wrung out by the end of it.

saturday lasted all day

i caught up with cheng for breakfast at la chien in seddon before wandering through the second hand store on the corner and then the way we wear fair at the williamstown town hall. say that a few times in a row if you dare, williamstown town hall, williamstown town hall. (i had problems just writing it).

i only took a couple of pics on my phone i'm sorry. but the fair is definitely worth a visit when it comes back to town. november i think.

back home through shocking traffic to get picked up for a house-warming that wasn't really a house-warming. having just signed the last of the paperwork for a new home, friends had decided they needed to show it off (even though they don't plan on moving in for another year). so a bbq and picnic table were provided and we had to bring everything else. there was no electricity so there was a finite time we could hang out. good move i thought.

watched a couple of dvds later in the evening. haven't done that in forever. saturday night on the couch. yes, it does happen. :)

talk and more talk

i got to hang out with the girls for a few hours this night. felicity was back in melbourne for a couple more days and it was our last opportunity to see her before she flies back to london life. the usual plentiful nibbles and conversation. everyone getting on with their own lives. all good.

then a trip into the city for a drink or two with friends at the marrakech cocktail bar. i really liked the decor but really, the music was just ugh! so that meant a certain type of person tended to gravitate, it was amusing to watch. i loved the lounging and yelled conversation that was had. good start to the weekend.

st kilda's prince

a fun evening at the prince of wales with jamie, simon and mark. the support band was berry but when nouvelle vague took to the stage it got a little more interesting. my first time at this venue and it was a case of avoiding columns and the usual tall people (i'm not short so i'm always a little disconcerted when i find myself continually stuck behind tall humans, mostly men). anyway for me nouvelle were like watching a really good 80s cover band, one that didn't suck. definitely worth a visit for their rendition of buzzcocks, ever fallen in love and idol's dancing with myself. like i said, fun.

adieu = c.i.a.

i didn't know this was a french film until i went looking for this pic to post. a free film through my MIFF membership - gotta love that. i also really enjoyed the film, it was slow moving but it fit the story of the beginning of the end of the cold war. the relationships and secrets between the ussr, france and the u.s. there were some funny moments too, ironically funny perhaps but still funny. oh and there was one sequence with queen, yes the band. that was hilarious, freddie in his white short shorts. laugh out loud moment there.

when the movie started i had a moment of "i miss this. the darkened theatre, a story unfolding. the magic". i have to get that all back. have pencilled in another film for next week.

baking, bowling & a roast

yum, huh? so there was a whole lot of baking going on this day for the swing event at the fitzroy bowling club in the afternoon. caught up with a few friends, played a game of pool and darts ( i LOVE darts). and then headed over to lea and terencio's for a slow cooked meal. sounds kinda saucy doesn't it? slow cooked. mmm... we watched a "so bad it's good" movie from the 80s, killer klowns from outer space. i know, you're entirely jealous aren't you? my friends treat me well. ha!

a day and a night

i'm looking forward to the new winter masterpiece starting at the NGV next week... woohoo.

today there was a two hour coffee and chat on degraves street with felicity and lea before we moved on to a 2 hour lunch in the block arcade with these lovely gals.

got a little gussied up for the shanghai ball at the fitzroy town hall. a few dances, a few laughs and then to bed. phew!

last night

although also a tune by the strokes and i'm sure many others, last night for me was 36 photos and a song with my friends, jamie, jill and mark. a winter stew and mash followed by frozen moments from our lives. i was telling you about it a few weeks back. we had to collate 36 photos from our history to tell our story up to this point. well, maybe one particular story told by the one choosing the pictures. i'm sure we've all had different lives but each of us told this story to share at this time. it was personal and funny and uplifting and oh so glorious. i thank my friends for sharing.

my song? it was by axiom, a little ray of sunshine. it suited how i felt at the time. it could change tomorrow, or even later on today. but it was right for me at that moment. :)

updated!!

i have been blessed with a zillion photos from the last couple of play weeks, so have posted a portion of them on my earlier entries. specifically the writers' fest in sydney and the classic car day in winton. many thanks to jamie and his trusty camera. ;)

a fabulous afternoon spent dancing at the copacabana to the b# big band.

this day

was a day of staying dry and warm. of tasting wine and cider. a housewarming, friends, talking crap and laughter.

things i love about melbourne

an rmit building on swanston where the panels remind me of an episode of dr who from the 70s that had giant maggots. they could infect people with this slime called the green death and people would start turning that green-black colour of the building puzzle pieces. i don't know how my mind works either. ;)

this strange lava-like ball of light that's hanging above fed square for the month of june.

i've seen these posted a few places around the city. damn i LOVE this place. this one is stuck on the wall just outside the bar misty. drinks there with jamie, mark, eloise and amy before we headed off for japanese.

adventures in tv land

a new show reaches the aussie shores from the uk digital broadcaster e4, misfits. it's a watch this space moment. hopefully it will be fabulously brilliant and i'll talk it up some more. the premise is a group of kids doing community service get struck by lightning during a strange storm and end up developing superpowers. woohoo!

kk & bbq @ the corner

king khan and the bbq show - these canadian musicians were AWESOMELY AWESOME. feathered head-dress and a cloak on the king (of course) and bbq had a fabulous silver turban (his last name is sultan so i guess the apparel is quite apt). until the encore when he came out in...

why not wear an octopus on your head... honestly the pictures don't do the costume justice. but as i said AWESOME... musically fantastic, doowop and rock and the banter, hilarious. my ears are still ringing. so get amongst it and listen to their music, myspace is a great introduction to a few of their tunes.
