one night of mlx10
i only got to one event through the melbourne lindy exchange this year and that was the wartime dance held at an essendon hangar. it was a lot of fun to get dressed up, and to see everyone else dressed up and swing out to the estee big band. the organisers did such a wonderful job, though i suspect they forgot to inform the weatherman as it continued to rain all weekend long.
unsure of why it looks like it's raining or snowing in the pics, the lens is clean, honest.
the last pic is me, lea and barb. a fun pair of gals to share time with.

another of those good days
had the day off to catch up on some writing with dave. i had been getting a little downhearted with the whole process, truth be told but today's session of about 5 hours was AWESOME. we were both really happy with the results. yah us! still want to film it late february so we're on a tight deadline. eek!
so after that intense morning, early arvo i decided to treat myself to a banana choptop and harry potter and the deathly hallows at melbourne central. i really enjoyed it and can't wait for part 2.
walked part of the way home, under an umbrella. just a beautiful twilight in the rain. love this city.

i got bored and "madmen-ed" myself. it's the closest i could get, and whilst i don't gallivant around in evening wear all that often it makes a nice change, don't you think? ;)

leonard's picnic at hanging rock
headed out of town with jamie, mark and dave for leonard cohen, jill joined us a little later in the afternoon. we went early to get ourselves positioned just right and lucky we did too as there was a line of cars to get in and then we joined the queue for the gates. it was a darn hot day and then when the sun went down, we practically froze. but all in all, a fun day and night.
i didn't get to walk around the rocks so i think i'll be taking another day trip up in the nearish future to do just that. which will mean another small road trip, oh damn. ;)

get off the couch....
this week feels like a waste. like i've done nothing with it. and i haven't. i promised myself i'd go to the gym. or sew. or write. or go dancing and yet i've done NOTHING. so today i made a decision. it had to change. i had to activate myself once more. go out into the world dear one. and so i did...
thank heavens i didn't pay for this film. it was CRAP!! it was so very bad i can hardly explain how bad the film was. the effects were fantastic but it couldn't carry this sci fi. sigh... it was terrible.
oh and i was reading the street mag beat on the tram home and there was an ad for girls crochet tops. and i read girls crotchet tops. i'm thinking wwwhhaaattt??? crotchet tops. okay, perhaps i shouldn't be that surprised. it'd be kind of like a merkin wouldn't it?? ha!

ending a nothing planned weekend...
i watched this again this afternoon after many years. first time viewing was with my mum, over half my lifetime ago. it still stands as a fantastically funny film. starring julie andrews, james garner and robert preston. fabulous.
i always thought a coffee cake contained coffee. who knew?? i used a recipe from the 50s for this baking adventure. and it's quite tasty - though i think next time i'll try it in a loaf tin and have a little cream on the side. a great dessert.

(ssshhh... christmas is coming. it's everywhere and i'm buying up decorations for my tree already....what fun.)

a road not taken (yet)
i dropped by the city to pick up a frappacino for the road. and then the road trip started and ended at richmond. the car wouldn't start, then did, then stopped again and then we gave up. no trip through the mountains to sydney this year. we've postponed it til early january when we have a weekend free.
the road crew ended up at a restaurant on bridge road for a long leisurely lunch, avoiding the rainy day in melbourne.
it was strange not having anything planned to do. i felt at a loss, but my couch coped remarkably well. ;)

today (being monday)
back to work. it had to happen eventually.
i caught up with mark who had a free ticket to a panel discussion at bmw edge. a few journos debating the future of the australian media. mostly about when will printed newspapers become obsolete, some interesting points, but nothing really new.
fed square rocks. this is what we've got to look forward to all summer long. awesomeness.

i baked brownies to take to the next rendition of the so bad it's good movie night. this one was held at tash and rohan's place. great meal and great company. film wasn't really bad enough though, just dated.

i didn't forget my sister's birthday. i just forgot other stuff. like blogging. i flew home this day...
the view coming into sydney.
between sydney and melbourne one of my bags managed to get left behind. it kind of turned into a blessing because it was the extra heavy one. it was couriered to me later on in the day, so i didn't have to drag it behind me for a few blocks or upstairs. like i said, a blessing. ;)
then because i really couldn't stay at home that evening, i caught up with jamie for a movie. good flick to watch, it kept me awake and thinking.
happy birthday ainsley. i love you little sister.
