i have frank's song chicago stuck in my head...

i think one of the things i've noticed about new york is that it's smaller and larger than I expected. it seems to be many little towns that have merged together to make a metropolis. it has a strange mixture of “new york” attitude and generosity of spirit. like anywhere i guess, but here it's amplified.

i like who i am when i travel. and i was thinking about it on my trip to new york that i really liked who i was on my long weekend in tahoe. it felt like a person i used to be. i need to get back to her.

so wednesday after the breakfast blog i headed midtown. had a date with the Met but on the walk there i noticed something that a couple of friends would appreciate. sorry you missed the show.

“there is no love more sincere than the love of food” – 37 3rd avenue on a plate. i was riding a bus and saw this in a nearby window.

the sky writing is pretty cool - catching the attention of everyone. don't really know what it was advertising but who couldn't do with some more bling??

the Met, a whole lot of people indeed. inside and out. and so much to see. i didn't make it all the way through. i had seen a lot of the ancient antiquities in the country they came from so i skipped them. walked around contemporaries of rembrandt but i was in the mood for some modern art. and took a few pics. can't remember all the artists - i've written it down somewhere but you can just look at the pretty pictures.

on the way out of the Met i noticed a whole crowd of people (strangely enough not trying to get into the museum) but lined up with cameras looking at a film crew. it just happened to be that the new sex and the city movie was having it's first day of shooting just outside the Met. and here i was. i snapped a couple of pics but nothing too clear as we had to stay back a bit. sarah jessica parker and chris noth were in this scene. sarah's in the green floral coat, you can just make her out.

then i had to hurry back to the theatre district as i had a show to see. i caught a yellow cab and i noticed that the lines in the middle of the road are really sort of suggestions you can follow or not. it was like watching water move around rocks – the flow and ebb of the yellow new york cab.

can anyone say Wicked? on the suggestion of a few people i shelled out the dosh to see this bloody spectacular show. and yes i would see it again in a heartbeat. it's playing at the Gershwin theatre on 51st - and i must say that i was swept away. the story was so clever and linked everything together with oz. yes, i cried. do you want to make something of it? :) see it, if you can.

walked along fifth avenue, checking out all the famous stores. some absolutely beautiful buildings, but you don't to see anymore pictures of them. and sometimes out of context they don't look as grand.

new york is fantastic. you have to see it for yourself.

I trust that poster will be coming back to Perth with you. Would look good next to the Moz poster pilfered in Melbourne. Although might need to put a second story on...
