monday mooching

up early and out into the day. again, i got to spend breakfast reading at starbucks, over a noah's bagel (holy cow) and a frappacino. i was breaking my fast in the financial district of sf, so everyone around me was madly making their way to work. i like that i could just take my time doing whatever i wanted too. life should be more like this.

i walked along the embarcadero for a while, taking photos of the san fran-oakland bridge - it's huge. i think longer than the golden gate. i get to drive the oakland bridge on friday when i drive up to lake tahoe. that'll be interesting.

as you would expect there's street art all over the city. hence the giant people. the ferry building survived the earthquake in 1906. it was one of the few public buildings left standing, and it was a conscious decision of the firechief to save it, so that it would be a beacon to those trying to escape the destruction of the city.

walked along the piers, through the crowds (really leaving the wharf for another day when i need to fulfill the chowder quota), coming out the other side where i could see the golden gate bridge in the distance.

i lunched at ghirardelli's. it wasn't very nutritious but extremely messy and tasty.

to work all this off i made my way up to the top of lombard street, taking in a view of coit tower and some of the eastern part of the city.

now it's said that lombard street is the most crooked street in the world, but i'm sure i read something in the past couple of weeks that refutes that. i may have to look into that one of these days. :)

i wandered through chinatown - and will grab some pics one of these days but i was looking for some reflexology place to massage my aching feet. of course i didn't find anything so i shuffled off down the street back to union square. at each corner entrance to this park area (when i say park, i mean mostly cement but it's peopled rather than taken up by buildings). anyway, at each entrance there are these big hearts. in 2004 i remember reading in the san francisco gate (a newspaper) about this arty thing that was going on. artists were asked to decorate these giant hearts that were put up around the city, i loved that idea. here's one of them.

okay, after a little work and a bit of a blog i'm off to start tuesday.
