if you can make it there...

well, one would have hoped that my last day in new york would have been a pleasant one, rewarding even. one would be disappointed. the one i’m talking about is me. today i had a lot to get through, which i didn’t and the things i did get to – well, let’s just say i wasn’t very happy about either of them.

up to the guggenheim to start with.. beautiful location by central park – I arrive and the outside is getting an overhaul (I did buy a postcard so that I can take a pic of that) – and then we were only allowed into three galleries because they were preparing another installation. uh huh… fine… but we still had to pay the full amount and didn’t even get to walk around the ramps, which as we all know is the reason that we all go to frank lloyd wright’s building… hmm…? anyway, i took a few pictures of the building, because the space really is spectacular. and i also snuck in a snap of another chagall – no photo taking is allowed in the guggenheim except in the foyer.

then after that schamozzle i made my way down to broadway and 51st to my now second favourite salad in the world, cosi’s. for my last shanghai chicken. yes, i took a photo so that i can look back and remember longingly. i didn’t need to do that with californian chicken cafĂ© because I make my own chinese chicken salad… mmm…. almost summer back home so that’ll be coming out again.

next came the trip to the empire state building… and yes, you guessed it. they too were/ are reconstruction. they, of course, apologise for the inconvenience but they are making it better for everyone. this doesn’t help me since i’m leaving the country. (only minutes now) so people everywhere, scaffolding and blinds up everywhere. it’s damn hot and i’m just over it. snapped maybe two shots and then gave up and left.

there is so much i missed on this trip. i didn’t get any closer to the statue, nor near the algonquin. julie just told me that CBGB’s has recently closed so that is one off my list… but there was no brooklyn bridge and so many other things so i’m just going to have to come back and soon. very soon.

here's a few shots taken on the walk back to the hotel - it's of the madison square park (or art as it's known at the moment)... the trees are just spectacular and i love how they make fun of standing in a queue.

just briefly, the trip to the airport on the shuttle was a bit like the griswald’s european adventure – well, when we eventually got to the airport (after about an hour and a half in peak hour traffic) we did about three loops of the same number 4 departure gate… a couple who had half hour to make their plane back to canada weren’t very happy, but it was a little funny.

and now onto london. sitting on the floor waiting to board. it looks like a full plane and i’m not happy that i didn’t get a window seat. bugger. thank heavens for the head rests… i might just survive.
